Temporary Water Source Change for West SJW Customers

Beginning Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Valley Water will be taking Rinconada Water Treatment Plant out of service to do routine maintenance. Anticipated completion of the work is Friday, March 8, 2024.

While the Rinconada Water Treatment plant is off-line, SJW will use local groundwater supplies and Montevina Treatment Plant to meet system demands.  This affects San Jose Water customers that are located west of Highway 17 and includes in the communities of Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and Cupertino.  This change in source water may result in some aesthetic changes in the water served to customers. Groundwater disinfected with free chlorine has an earthier smell than chloraminated surface water, and free chlorine is more readily detectable in taste and smell than chloramine. Additionally, groundwater has higher hardness, meaning you may notice scaling of white calcium deposits and spotting on dishware. Please know that both sources meet all drinking water standards and are safe to drink.

CA Arrearage Assistance Funds

San Jose Water knows that COVID impacted our customers’ ability to pay their bills. In order to help, San Jose Water has applied for arrearage assistance from the State Water Board. This funding may be applied to customer debt accrued from June 15, 2021 through December 31, 2022. We will be providing more information throughout the process. Please head here for further details.

On July 10, 2023, Governor Newsom signed a budget trailer bill expanding the Arrearages Program to provide relief to community water systems for unpaid bills related to the pandemic.

This new Extended Water and Wastewater Arrearage Payment Program extends the COVID Relief Period to December 31, 2022.  This program has $600 million in federal funding.
